Contour Tone Language

Definition

A contour tone language differs from register tone languages as they make use of tonal patterns over the syllable. This means, that a single syllable (or tone-bearing unit) can have a high-low (falling) or low-high (rising) (among other patterns) tone over it (Zsiga, p. 378, 2013).
