Coordination

Definition

Coordination, also known as conjunction, occurs when nominal adjuncts can be linked with the conjunction ʔəy̓ or i ‘and’ in Halkomelem. Nouns cannot be linked with first and second person subjects and objects in the way they are linked with other nouns. Rather, an appropriate plural person marker appears in its proper place to allow the conjunction and noun to appear as a nominal adjunct. (Suttles, 2003, pp. 91-92)
