Definition
The feature [distributed] is used to distinguish between sounds that have a long constriction in the vocal tract (or, a distributed constriction along the vocal tract) versus those that do not. The [+distributed] feature refers to those sounds that do have a long distribution, whereas [-distributed] sounds have a smaller constriction in the vocal tract during articulation (Zsiga, 2013, p. 266).
Sounds that are [+distributed] include [θ], [ʃ], and [ɕ].
