Positional (fixed) Stress

Definition

Positional stress (i.e., fixed stress) is when the stress of a syllable is dependent on a syllable’s position within a word (Zsiga, 2013, p. 357). For example, a language which only places stress on the second syllable of a word would be considered to follow a positional stress pattern.
