Definition
A trochee is a termed used to refer to a metrical foot in which the head syllable (i.e., the stressed syllable) is the left-most syllable (Zsiga, 2013, p. 360). This is also called being left-headed.

- Dyck (2004) provides an example of a trochaic (trochee) foot in the following example. Here, it can be seen that the first syllable /híl-/ is the stressed syllable and is on the left-most edge of the foot.
