Definition
Laryngeal features are the set of features which can account for alternations which involve laryngeal contrasts between sounds (Zsiga, 2013, p. 262), in other words differences in vocal fold manipulation during speech. For example, some languages may make distinctions between aspirated /ph/ and unaspirated /p/, which involve a laryngeal contrast. The set of laryngeal features includes [voice], [spread glottis], and [constricted glottis].
